Evaluation

My target audience for my magazine is 16-30, mostly woman and men. The genre of my magazine is dancehall. All of the factors of mise-en-scene are present in my magazine. For my double page spread, I took several pictures of him on the left side the model is looking of to the ocean and is wearing a sleeveless t-shirt as in Jamaica it is usually mostly very hot, the colour yellow connotes that joy and happiness which also refers to the yellow on the flag as it symbolises  the beauty of the sunlight and the wealth of the country. The typography used for my front cover is bad grunge and for my double page spread is dark collage these fonts is bold and dramatic as it stands out on the page. I also used capital letters. During my planning stages, I noticed that in dancehall, capital letters as well as a bold font are used frequently. Therefore, I used these features to link it to the genre of my magazine. The typography used on my double page was a font I downloaded from dafont which is a site with various types of fonts.

In my magazine I was able to incorporate the codes and conventions needed in my magazine. On my front cover, I have a masthead, cover line that are clear to read, a main cover line which introduces the artist, a dateline, a barcode, a main image and social media websites instead of a website link. I used social media websites instead of website links this is because my initial target audience for this magazine is 16-30 as mostly young people use social media and are not typically always going to read through the magazine but are usually online which would attract more people in that age bracket, which lead me to the conclusion that social media links would be the suitable choice. On my Double Page Spread, I have used a headline, columns, a pull quote, a main image, a page number, a dateline, a by-line introducing the artist, , a suitable colour scheme and I have named the reporter and the photographer which is in the bottom left side. The conventions stated allowed me to make my magazine as professional as possible. The conventions used link to the genre of my magazine. The main image on the front page has the model looking into the camera. In my genre they usually look into the camera making them the focal point which makes them seem more intimidating. Additionally, I decided to do the main cover line on the front cover and the headline on the double page spread into a larger font because this would make them stand out more. In bashment, the names of the singers stand out more than the other text on the page. The cover lines on my front cover are related to other artists in the genre, therefore this would appeal to the genre and my magazine's target audience more than just a traditional cover line would.
